Mu Koh Lanta National Park

Around 150 sq km of tropical evergreen forest, coastal grasslands, unspoilt islands and vibrant coral reefs make up the Mu Koh Lanta National Park. Home to a wide variety of animals, birds and fish, Koh Lanta and its surrounding islands are worth visiting for any nature lovers.

On Koh Lanta Yai, the National Marine Park is found at the southern most point on the west coast. The road itself winds along the shoreline giving numerous opportunities to take pictures, then cutting through the shaded wild forest. Take time out. Stop the engine and just listen. Maybe, if you’re lucky, you would hear one of the many inhabitants; over 100 recorded species of birds, wild pigs, deer, flying lemur, civets.

There is an entry fee to the park of around 400 Baht which goes towards the parks upkeep and conservation. The staff speak very good English and are happy to give out information. Here you are almost guaranteed to see the wild monkeys, which run around freely with little concern for humans. There is a lighthouse on the cape and the view is amazing. On the left there are huge waves crashing onto boulders and to the right gentle lapping waves meet the 100 metre white sandy beach. Under the water’s surface is a coral reef full of life. The backdrop is a lush green forest reaching for the sky.

The park also offers picnic areas, showers and toilet facilities. There is a nature trail leading through the jungle that takes approximately 1hr to walk around.

It’s a tremendous shame to travel this far around the world and miss out on taking this fascinating exploration into nature.
Recommended to all visitors of Koh Lanta.
