By Road

A wide variety of buses, minibuses and taxi services operate from all over Thailand and into Malaysia, providing convenient access to Koh Lanta. Depending on your location you may well have to make some changes, often at Krabi or Trang.

The government buses are the cheapest transport but are often crowded. Depending on your budget, VIP air-con minibuses provide a lot more luxury with added legroom. Many of the air-con minibuses provide VCD or DVD players, so bring along some discs for these journeys. Taxis are by far the most expensive transport, but for convenience are oten worthwhile. Remember to ask for the meter if they have one.

When travelling to Koh Lanta by road you will have 2 short crossings by car ferry, first to Koh Lanta Noi, then to Koh Lanta Yai. Depending on the traffic and tides these can take between 45 minutes to a couple of hours.

By boat

Ferries leave several times a day during high season (Mid-Oct – May) between Krabi, Koh Phi Phi, Phuket, Ao Nang, Koh Ngai and Koh Jum. There are also speedboats to Koh Lipe, where you can transfer to Langkawi.

During high season most resorts will have free taxis waiting when the passenger ferries arrive in Saladan. If you have already booked a room then just look around for someone advertising your resort, otherwise take a look at what rooms are on offer. It’s a good idea to decide what beach you want to stay on first.
